Personal Narrative

Hello, my name is Chandler Murray and I am an occupational therapy doctorate student at Xavier University. I am from Cincinnati, Ohio where I was born and raised. I graduated cum laude from Miami University in 2020. At Miami University, I received my bachelor's degree in public health, a minor in nutrition, and a thematic sequence in developmental psychology. I was diagnosed with Idiopathic Arthritis when I was a toddler and since then I have always known I wanted to help people. At Miami University, I learned of occupational therapy and I immediately knew it was the career I was meant to do! In this profession, I hope to empower others to feel strong and capable just as others helped me feel this way. I want to show people that no matter what the obstacle is in their life, they never have to stop doing what they love.

Currently, I am interested in occupational therapy's involvement in outpatient pediatrics and inpatient adults, but my biggest interest is in women's health! I have experience observing occupational therapy in hand clinics, inpatient acute care, children's cooking groups, and sensory integration in pediatric therapy. I have also worked as a summer camp counselor for the past five summers, with children ages 5-12. I recently completed a Level 1 fieldwork experience at an outpatient pediatric clinic in which I was able to perform assessments on clients, complete documentation about their sessions, and create and implement my own intervention plans for clients. I completed a second Level 1 fieldwork at a respite camp for youths with a variety of disabilities and special needs in which I was able to modify and adapt common camp activities and work in groups with the children to play games, do crafts, and perform cooking activities. I completed my first Level 1 geriatric fieldwork at a skilled nursing facility in which I was able to implement assessments, interact with clients, learn about oxygen tanks, and complete interventions. My second Level 1 adults fieldwork was in acute care where I was able to help a variety of patients get out of bed, educate them on weight-bearing precautions and pursed lip breathing, learn and use hospital equipment including vitals machines, and document client outcomes.

In my free time, I enjoy watching movies, yoga, hiking, swimming, and spending time with my family and friends. You are welcome to explore the various tabs at the top of my home page to learn more about me, my projects, my experiences, and my future goals. Thank you!
