Professional Development Goals & Plan (Continued)

Capstone:

1. By the start of my Capstone experience in August of 2023, I will have completed the Herman and Wallace Pelvic Floor Dysfunction Level 1 course.  

1A. By summer of 2022, I will have signed up and paid for the Herman and Wallace Pelvic Floor Dysfunction Level 1 course. 

2. During my capstone experience, I will be able to explore an area of occupational therapy that is an emerging area of practice in the field. 

2A. By the end of December 2022, I will have researched different areas of occupational therapy and performed a needs assessment to choose a capstone topic that is a niche area of OT and has gaps in patient care and research. 


First Year After OTD Program:
1. By the end of my first year after the OTD program, I will be working in women's health.
 

1A. During the Fall of 2023, I will research and interview at a variety of women's health and pelvic floor clinics to find one that is best for me. 

2. By the end of my first year out of OT school, I will have completed at least one more Herman and Wallace Pelvic health classes in the Pelvic Health Sequence.

2A. By the start of the summer of 2024, I will have signed up and paid for the chosen Herman and Wallace Pelvic Floor course. 


Five Years After OTD Program:
1. By the end of five years after my OTD program, I will have paid off at least half of my debt from college (undergrad) and OT school (grad school). 

1A. By the end of one year after OT school, I will be devoting at least half of my paycheck to my student debt.

2. By the end of 5 years after my OTD program, I will have built an established referral source with local women's health care providers. 

2A. By the end of my first year after the OTD program, I will have contacted the women's healthcare providers that I worked with during my capstone to inform them of my current place of employment and ability to be a mutually beneficial referral source.

 

3. I aim to get a job in outpatient pelvic health by the end of my first year out of graduate school 

 

3A. During the Fall of 2023, I will begin applying to local pelvic health jobs. 

 

4. Promote and advocate for OT’s role in women’s health by sharing evidence, research, and personal experiences via submissions to the OOTA and AOTA within my first five years after graduation. 

 

4A. I will submit my capstone poster to the AOTA to present at the AOTA Conference 2024 during the Fall of 2023.

 

4B. I will apply to present my capstone data or pelvic health OT strategies gained during my job in the year 2025. 

 

5. By the end of my first year after graduation, I aim to work at a clinic that values both patient care and employee occupational balance

 

5A. During the Fall and winter of 2023, when I am applying to pelvic health OT jobs, I will make pros and cons lists for each job, to ensure that I accept a job that values me and my patients (i.e., pays for CEUs, productivity standards are manageable, I have sufficient session time to treat my patients, I get at least 2 weeks PTO, etc.).
